Hestia was the goddess of the home and hearth; if you want to be the Hestia to your own home, there are always things you can do to make your home more beautiful and comfortable to other and to your family. Every woman should have her home space, sanctuary, and area of private reflection in her home, wherever that may be. In the smallest apartment, bedroom, or mansion, there should always be a private space where one can rest and think untroubled. You can create an “altar” to Hestia; it doesn’t have to be an elaborate work of Pagan worship, just a small little decoration that reminds you of Hestia when you sit near it, or pass by. Try making a group of scented candles on a table or a shelf, or a small bouquet of lavender tied with some ribbon. You can be your own domestic goddess by adding little touches of creativity to just a few things in your home here and there. Be creative; tie a bundle of folded towels or sheets with coloured ribbon, or put a tiny vase with a bouquet of parsley in the fridge. You could wear an amethyst, or carry a crystal to occasionally balance yourself in the middle of the day, using it to realign your thoughts.
Some of us, well, most of us, hate housework; cleaning and scrubbing, etc., is not among our favourite things to do. Instead of fretting over your cleaning obligations, instead try to think of that time as being a dedicated moment to consider the goddess Hestia. Try to reserve about thirty minutes a week to a task, or tasks, while you organize something or clean up a small mess, and use that time to consider the goddess. Other ways to honour the goddess are also ways to make yourself a little happier as well. Take a few minutes out of every day to connect with someone you care about; after a while you’ll find yourself to be a more loving person than you thought you were to begin with. Dedication to Hestia can be as easy as managing your resources wisely; such as deciding not to spend money on a luxury, and instead saving it for a rainy day. Other ways of bringing more of Hestia into your life can be as easy as speaking out about your needs and what you want; Hestia used her own voice to get what she wanted and needed as well.
